چکیده
Just as O-notation provides an asymptotic upper bound on a function, Ω-notation provides an asymptotic lower bound. In other words, Ω-notation is the asymptotic equivalent of “≥”. For a given function g(n), we denote by Ω(g(n)) (pronounced “big omega of g of n” or sometimes just “omega of g of n”) the set of all functions f(n), such that there exist positive constants c and n0 such that 0 ≤ cg(n) ≤ f(n) for all n ≥ n0.

7350: Topics in Finite-dimensional Algebras
These are the notes from a course taught at Cornell in Spring 2009. They are a record of what was covered in the lectures. Many results were copied out of books and other sources, as noted in the text. The course had three parts: (1) An introduction to finite-dimensional algebras (lectures 1-12) (2) Gabriel’s Theorem (lectures 13-16) (3) Auslander-Reiten theory (lectures 17-27). Thanks to C. H....
متن کاملHow to Use Finite Fields for Problems concerning Infinite Fields
As the title indicates, the purpose of the present lecture is to show how to use finite fields for solving problems on infinite fields. This can be done on two different levels: the elementary one uses only the fact that most algebraic geometry statements involve only finitely many data, hence come from geometry over a finitely generated ring, and the residue fields of such a ring are finite; t...
متن کاملGeometric Complexity Theory: Introduction
Foreword These are lectures notes for the introductory graduate courses on geometric complexity theory (GCT) in the computer science department, the university of Chicago. Part I consists of the lecture notes for the course given by the first author in the spring quarter, 2007. It gives introduction to the basic structure of GCT. Part II consists of the lecture notes for the course given by the...
متن کاملAdvanced Algorithms Lecture Notes
Preface This is a set of lecture notes for the 3rd year course " Advanced Algorithms " which I gave in Tsinghua University for Yao-class students in the Spring and Fall terms in 2011. This set of notes is partially based on the notes scribed by students taking the course the first time it was given. Many thanks to Xiahong Hao and Nathan Hobbs for their hard work in critically revising, editing,...
متن کاملProximality and Chebyshev sets
This paper is a companion to a lecture given at the Prague Spring School in Analysis in April 2006. It highlights four distinct variational methods of proving that a finite dimensional Chebyshev set is convex and hopes to inspire renewed work on the open question of whether every Chebyshev set in Hilbert space is convex.
